What has Gilching not witnessed: Roman colonization, occupation and pillage by the Swedes in 1632, and the flood of refugees after World War II. Yet the third largest Township in the county faces a new major challenge at the beginning of the 21. Jahrhundert as well.
Gilching has not turned into a sleepy residential town. It has a vibrant community life, and there is always something to celebrate - at exemple the italian summer-festival in the Centrum, the Christmas-Market or the "Schmankerlfest" between 15. and 17. July 2007.
Thera a more than 70 local associations and societies, a sports center, two fire departements, eight Kindergardens and two of the leading grammar schools in Bavaria, the Chrisoph-Probst-Gymnasium. The community's commitment to the familiy shows in its center for mothers. A new citizens' center ar ready at 2005.
